The Asia-Pacific Occupational Safety and Health Organization (APOSHO) was established in 1985 with the principle of promoting occupational safety and health in the Asia-Pacific region. Every year the APOSHO conference is held in a member country. This year, with the theme “Enhancing Safety Culture, Striving Sustainability” the APOSHO-28 Conference was held from October 8-12, 2013 in Jakarta (Indonesia) and hosted by the National Safety and Health Council of Indonesia (NSHCI)

On October 9, 2013 the APOSHO-28 Conference was opened with the participation of over 400 delegates including many international guests from 20 countries and territories, such as Taiwan (China), India, Switzerland, Indonesia, Thailand, South Korea, Japan and the United States.

Chairman of NSHCI, Ir. Waluyo, General Secretary of APOSHO, Chi-Ming Law, and Minister of Manpower and Transmigration of Indonesia, H. A. Muhaimin Iskandar gave the opening speeches. As usual, the plenary session and sub-committee’s sessions were held with the presentation of reports by OSH specialists, managers and scientists from many countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

The annual general meeting of the APOSHO members was held on October 11, 2013. At the conference, many contents were discussed and adopted, first of all the adoption of APOSHO amended regulations, then the consideration of the admission of new members and recognition of full members of APOSHO (this year ICCOSH of Indonesia and SISO of Singapore have become the full members of APOSHO). Law Chi-Ming has been re-elected APOSHO General Secretary for the 2014-2016 term. The APOSHO flag has been handed over to Thailand, the host country of the APOSHO-29 Conference.

The APOSHO-28 Conference has been wrapped up successfully. At this conference, the delegation of the National Institute of Labour Protection (NILP) has demonstrated the role of a responsible, friendly and cooperative full member. Besides the general activities the NILP delegation has actively participated in contacts and exchanges to promote prospects of bilateral cooperation with other OSH organizations in the region.
