Occupational accidents occur to between 120,000 and 130,000 people in Vietnam every year with 10% of those cases being fatal.

These statistics regarding hazards in the workplace were released by the International Labour Organization, and presented at the Occupational Health and Safety 2-day training course for officials in the labour force and the press from Central Vietnam – Central Highlands that took place in Hue City yesterday and today.

The main reasons for these occupational accidents are often caused by employers violations regarding safety standards as well as technical and safety regulations.

Many employers have not followed guidelines on work safety for their employees, nor provided them with proper safety training and personal safety protection. Equipment provided either does not meet safety standards or there is no safety equipment at all.

In Vietnam, over 90% of companies lack a supervision apparatus that can monitor and make sure their employees follow all regulations on occupational health and safety.
