A number risk factors involved road traffic injuries

ABSTRACR
Road traffic injuries have enormous health, social and economic impacts on individuals, families, communities and nations. It is a major public health issue in developing countries as it caused high mortality and morbidity rates. The reasons for the high burden of road traffic injuries in developing countries are: growth in the numbers of motor vehicles; poor enforcement of traffic safety regulations; inadequacy of health infrastructure, and poor access to health care.
This study aims at evaluating the traffic injuries risk among victims from police sector. The study findings show that there is a total number of 98 injury cases: The highest number of victims (77.6%) were from 15-59 years of age followed by (15.3%) in the age group over 60 years. More than 70% of victims were male. Motorcycles and car were vehicles commonly involved in RTAs. The highest number (12.6% ) of RTA victims who reported in the month of September followed by April and July. Road traffic injuries can be prevented if appropriate interventions are implemented. Appropriate measures are recommended by the authors in this study for traffic injury prevention.
